Annie Duke in Good Position to Win 2nd WSOP Bracelet

As of June 5, 2007, Annie Duke, one of the best poker players in the world, is in a good position to win her second WSOP bracelet. She has secured her slot at the final table in the Omaha/Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo 8/OB poker tournament of the 2007 World Series of Poker.

Annie Duke consistently placed in the top 10 of the event and approached the final table in the second spot with 230,000 in total chips. The remaining participants are fighting it out for the championship prize of $214,347 and the gold WSOP bracelet.

Winning at the WSOP is not a foreign concept to Annie Duke. She won her first WSOP in the $2,000 Omaha Eight poker event. She also won the invitation only Tournament of Champions event defeating fellow pro Phil Hellmuth.

Duke won a total of $2 million. As of the moment, Annie Duke has cashed out 20 times at the WSOP and secured a total of 13 finishes in the top ten. In the 2006 WSOP Main Event, Duke finished in 88th position.

This year, Duke's focus is not only on winning WSOP bracelets. She is banking on the popularity of online poker and the World Series of Poker to bring the needed spotlight to the ongoing genocide in the Darfur region of Sudan.

With Don Cheadle, Annie Duke is sponsoring the Ante up for Africa, a No Limit Texas Hold'em tournament created to raise awareness about what is happening in the region.
