J.C. Tran is the World Poker Tour Player of the Year

On May 4, 2007, poker pro J.C. Tran won the World Poker Tour Player of the Year award and is expected to win Card Player's Player of the Year title as well. Getting into 3 final table finishes within the span of 2 months will certainly help him do so.

Professionals in the game of poker need to finish in the top 7 of a poker tournament in order to receive the necessary points. J.C. Tran's 6th finish that earned him the big points was at the World Poker Open with a $10,000 buy-in cost.

He won $142,810 and 300 player points for his efforts. Tran also placed 2nd in the LA Poker Classic and won a total of $1,177,010 for his efforts along with the 700 points for the event. A month later, Tran placed 1st at the World Poker Challenge in Reno, Nevada.

He won a total of $683,473 for his good showing and a seat at the WPT World Championship. He also received 1,000 points. Tran was also the top finisher in the WPT leader board.

J.C. Tran is still currently leading the Card Player Player of the Year award with 4,332 points. James Van Alstyne is in 2nd place with 2,848 points. Other WPT Player of the Year winners are Howard Lederer, Erick Lindgren, Daniel Negreanu and Gavin Smith.
