Roll Your Own Poker

Roll Your Own Overview

Roll Your Own is also known as Mexican Stud. It is a variant of Seven Card Stud, with a small twist – players may select which of their cards they choose to show, provided that they show the correct number of cards at all times. It is suitable for 3-7 players.

Roll Your Own Rules

To play Roll Your Own, players first ante up. They place a small sum in the pot to get the game going. The dealer gives each player three cards, face down. On the count of three, each player turns one card face up. The player with the highest card up begins the betting round.

Going around the table, each player can choose to match the current bet, referred to as calling. They may choose to raise the current bet, forcing other players to match the new, higher amount. They may also choose to fold, risking no more money, but also having no stake in the rest of the game.

When the betting is completed, the dealer gives each player another three cards, face down. After each card is dealt, the players must turn one of their face down cards face up. Then there is another round of betting, beginning with the player left of the dealer. After the sixth card is dealt, the seventh is placed face down in front of the player. There is a final round of betting, followed by a showdown. Each player forms the best five-card poker hand possible, and the best hand wins the pot.
