Poker Night Every Night of the Week for Fredericksburg

Fredericksburg's American Restaurant Poker League (FARPL) now plays Texas Hold'em 7 nights a week at local restaurants. Poker players are welcome to join by signing in, and members get to play poker for free.

FARPL co-owner, Kenny Blaney, is pleased with the success of his venture. "We really tried to tailor [the league] to customers' needs, taking all the negative aspects of other leagues and making them positive," Blaney said. "We started at 2 locations and now have 8, with over 700 members. We even have Northern Virginia locations wanting to join."

Likewise, restaurant owners are happy with the business boost that the tournament is bringing in.

Buffalo Philly's restaurant owner, Chris Roth, has good things to say about the way the organizers are bringing in the players. "The owners of the league really do a lot to promote the league," he said. "Between the word of mouth, interacting with the crowd and keeping their website up to date."

The game equipment is provided by the league, as well as a host to act as a mediator for the night. In turn, the restaurant offers food and beverage.

The top 3 winners of the night are awarded by the league, and the top 2 automatically advance into the regionals, held every 3 months.

Mike Riddle, General Manager of Cafe DaVanzo, said the league does a lot to "drum up business" for the restaurant.

At the first regional, held February 3rd, a trip to Atlantic City was given to the winner. Several other prizes were also given, sponsored by various businesses.
