Mississippi Stud

Mississippi Stud Overview

Mississippi Stud is a version of Seven Card Stud with five upcards and two facedown. It has only four betting rounds, so it can be used with the betting structures generally used in Hold’em games. Mississippi Stud is suitable for 3-7 players.

Mississippi Stud Rules

Before the initial deal, players pay the initial ante to get the game going. Then the dealer gives each player two cards face down and one card face-up. Then there is a betting round.

The betting round begins with the player showing the highest card. That player must either pay the bring-in bet, which is below the lower bet in the betting structure, or fold. Going clockwise around the table, players can match the bring-in bet, referred to as calling, or raise to the next level of bet. They may also choose to fold.

After betting is completed, the dealer gives each player two more cards face-up. Betting begins again with the player who has the highest card showing.

The sixth card is dealt face-up, and there is another betting round, beginning again with the player showing the highest card. This round uses the higher betting limit.

The seventh card is dealt face-up, and the final betting round begins with the player showing the best five card poker hand. When the betting round is complete, the showdown takes place. Each player shows all cards, and the player who can form the best five card hand wins the pot.
