Poker Limit Types

One of the key components in Online Poker is betting so you should be aware of the three different types of betting structures which exist. The different online poker rooms each have different limits so being aware of the limits will help you immensely. The betting structure influences the style of game which will be played as well as shaping your strategy accordingly. One of the greats things about online poker is that it only lets you bet as much as the maximum or the minimum.

Fixed Limit

In Fixed Limit the amount you can bet is restricted as well as the amount of times you can raise. In a 10/20 fixed limit game of Texas Hold'em the maximum pre-flop and flop bet and/or raise is $10. If the maximum is raised three times that means each player still in the hand would have bet $40.

For the turn and river this increases to $20 and so the maximum one would have to pay to still be in the hand would be $80.

Pot Limit

In Pot Limit the size of the bet grows exponentially as the player can raise by the amount of the pot after he has seen someone else's bet. So if the pot is $20 and someone raises $20 than he can bet a maximum of $80. This is because when he matches the $20 bet the pot is now $60.

It only takes a few bets in pot limit poker for the pot to explode. With online poker it is far easier to work out what is going on and how much the maximum raise is.

No Limit

No Limit is the most popular variant due to its no holds barred approach. There is no limit as to the amount of raises or the size of the raise but for a person having enough chips to do so.
