Kankakee Poker

Kankakee Overview

Kankakee is a variant on Seven-Card Stud in which every player holds a wild card. Like Seven-Card Stud, it is suitable for 3-7 players.

Kankakee Rules

Before the deal, players place their ante in the pot. This is a small sum that every player adds to the pot to make sure that there is a prize.

The dealer gives each player three cards. The first two are facedown, while the third is face up. The third card in every player’s hand is wild. Moreover, if the player holds more cards of that rank, they are also wild.

Beginning with the player to the dealer’s left, each player must decide to call, adding the amount of the current bet to the pot, raise, adding more funds to the pot in order to force others to add more, or fold, quitting the game and not risking any further funds.

When the betting round is complete, the dealer gives each player a fourth card, face up. This followed by a betting round.

The fifth card is dealt face up and followed by a betting round.

The sixth card is dealt face up, also followed by a round of betting.

The seventh card is dealt face down. There is a final round of betting, followed by a showdown. Players use any five cards in their hand to form the best possible hand. The player who holds the best poker hand wins the pot. It is important to remember that the first upcard and any cards of its rank are wild.
