Jordan Morgan Competes at the U.S. Poker Championships

Losing almost $500,000 would seem like a rough blow, but it actually turned out to be one of the best moments in Jordan Morgan's life.

On October 8, 2006, playing at the final table of the U.S. Poker Championships held in Atlantic City, Morgan was in the forefront to win the $1.1 million prize. But when the tournament concluded, Morgan ended up being the runner-up to Alex Jacobs, who won the championship and the $878,500 prize.

Morgan had to be content with the runner-up prize of $405,072. Morgan, a former student at the University of Oklahoma, said that it is one of the biggest wins in his poker career. Even though he missed out on the big purse, he is still content in winning the runner-up spot.

Before winning at the USPC, Morgan's biggest cash prize was $87,060 at the 2006 37th yearly WSOP. It was at the U.S. Poker Championships that Morgan's name began to get noticed. The event was broadcast on ESPN on March 31, 2007.

About 2 years ago, Morgan did not think that he could hold that amount of money. When he was still a Physics major at the University of Oklahoma, he was content in joining online poker tournaments. But after being ranked as one of the top 3 online poker players, Morgan decided to join the pro circuit. However, that decision meant that he had to drop out of the University.

Morgan said that at first, his family was wary of his decision, but now they are supportive of him after seeing the fruits of his labor and earning about $700,000 as a poker pro.
