High Chicago Poker

High Chicago Poker Overview

High Chicago is a very basic variant on Seven Card Stud. The whole game is played the same, except that the player with the highest spade facedown splits the pot with the player with the highest hand. Like Seven Card Stud, High Chicago is played with 3-7 players.

High Chicago Rules

To begin the game, players ante up, placing the initial bet in the pot. Then the dealer gives each player two cards facedown and one card face-up. The player showing the highest card opens the betting, and betting moves clockwise around the table. Players who wish to stay in can choose to call or raise the bet, while those who wish to quit may fold. If a player wishes to only match the current bet level, it is referred to as calling. A player may also add more to the pot, called raising. This forces all other players who wish to stay in to add more money to the pot.

When the betting round is completed, the fourth card is dealt face-up. There is another round of betting. The fifth card is dealt face-up, followed by another round of betting. Then the sixth card is dealt face-up. Again, this is followed by a round of betting.

The seventh card is dealt facedown, and there is a final round of betting. When this round is complete, players must show their cards. The player who has the highest spade facedown wins half of the pot. Players form hands using five of their cards. The player with the best five-card poker hand wins the other half of the pot. If no player has a spade facedown, then the whole pot goes to the player with the best poker hand.
