Heinz 57 Poker

Heinz 57 Overview

Heinz 57 is a draw-poker game. Like five-card stud, it is suitable for 3-8 players. Fives and Sevens are wild.

Heinz 57 Rules

Before play begins, each player submits an identical sum of money to the pot. This sum is referred to as an ante. Once the antes have been placed, each player gets five cards, face down. After the players have had time to look at their cards, the first round of betting begins. The player to the dealer’s left begins the betting round. When the betting reaches a player, they may call the current bet, matching whatever amount has been wagered so far. They may raise the current bet, forcing any player who wishes to stay in the game to add more money to the pot. They may also fold. Folding means; the player doesn’t have to put in any more money but also that he is no longer eligible for any winnings. Once a player has folded, they are out of the game.

After the betting is completed, all the players still in the game are allowed to exchange cards from their hand for new cards from the deck. Each player is allowed to exchange as many as three cards. If they hold an ace or a wild card (five or seven) they can show that card and then they may exchange four of their five cards. After the player gives back the cards that they wish to exchange, the dealer gives them new cards.

There is another round of betting at this point. When all betting is completed, players have to show their hands. The player with the best poker hand wins, bearing in mind that fives and sevens are wild.
