Free Enterprise Poker

Free Enterprise Overview

Free Enterprise is a version of Seven Card Stud where players can choose to buy cards or to receive cards at random for each upcard. Like Seven Card Stud, it is suitable for 3-7 players.

Free Enterprise Rules

Before the game begins, the dealer assigns a price for buying cards. Once this has been determined, players ante up, placing a small sum in the pot to get the game started. The dealer gives each player two cards facedown. Then the dealer places three cards face-up on the table.

Beginning with the player to the dealer’s left and moving clockwise around the table, each player, in turn, can choose to buy one of the cards that is showing or to accept, for free, the next card from the top of the deck. If a player buys a card, the dealer places a new card face-up in its place. Whether the player buys a card or gets a free card, it is placed face-up in front of the player. When all players have a new upcard, then there is a round of betting.

Beginning with the player to the left of the dealer, and again moving clockwise, each player decides whether they wish to stay in or to quit. If they want to stay in, they must at least match the current bet. If they match the current bet, they are said to call the bet. They can also raise, adding an additional sum which all other players who wish to stay in must now match. Quitting the round is called folding. A player who folds adds no money to the pot, but can no longer play or win.

For the fourth through sixth cards, players can buy or receive cards, face-up. There is a round of betting after each card is received.

The seventh card is dealt facedown to each player, and there is a final round of betting, followed by the showdown. All players show their cards, and the player who can form the best five-card poker hand wins the pot.
