Dirty Shultz Poker

Dirty Shultz Overview

Dirty Shultz is also called Breed the Heifer. It is a variant of Seven Card Stud in which there may be wild cards and the wild card can change over the course of the game. Dirty Shultz can be played by 3-7 players.

Dirty Shultz Poker Rules

To begin play, players place a small sum, known as the ante, in the pot. Then the dealer gives each player two cards facedown, followed by a single card face-up. There is a round of betting. Beginning with the player to the dealer’s left and moving clockwise around the table, players choose to stay in or fold. If they stay in, they must pay the amount of the current bet, which is referred to as calling. If they wish, they may also raise, which means adding more money than the current bet. It increases the bet, forcing all players who wish to stay in to increase their bet.

When the betting round is completed, each player receives a fourth card, face-up. If any player has a pair showing, then the next card dealt and all other cards of its rank becomes wild. Since the cards are dealt clockwise, this will be the card given to the player to the left of the one holding the pair.

There is another betting round, and then each player receives the fifth card face-up, followed by another betting round. The sixth card is also dealt face-up, followed by a betting round. The rules regarding pairs apply. If there is more than one pair in the game, only the card dealt after the last pair is wild. If the last pair is dealt to the dealer (who gets last), then there is no wild card.

The seventh card is dealt facedown, followed by a final round of betting. In the showdown, those players still in the game show their cards. The player, who can form the best five-card poker hand, bearing in mind the wild cards, wins the pot.
