Seven Card Stud Strategy - Fourth Street Medium Pair

At low limits tables most players would fold if they are holding an unsuited medium pair, they do not want to risk more money, but you should wait before you think about folding. Your chance for improving your hand is medium, this gives you hope, but the more important thing for you to consider are live cards and kickers. Remember that Seven Card Stud is about live cards and high kickers.

If your medium pair is yet unmatched by others' visible cards, meaning they are still live cards, you have a fair shot for winning the pot, but only if your overcards are live and higher than any other visible cards. This works in both ways: either you pair your high kicker in Fifth Street or you deter strong hands, thus making them draw, but that's only if your medium pair is hidden.

For example, if your medium pair made of 8's and your doorcard is an Ace then you are in good position to play fast, deter others from playing and although you are risking your money, you can win the pot, though it wouldn't be big, but that would be enough for you when holding a medium pair.

If you don't hold a high kicker but you have sufficient knowledge of your opponents' hands and you feel you can win at Fifth Street, which means more money, then don't bet the maximum, let others invest their money first, and then move on and take it from them.
