WSOP to Get High Definition Upgrade for Television Coverage

ESPN's Network coverage of the World Series of Poker Tournament is upgrading to high definition (HD) improvement, according to insiders in the industry. Starting July 7, 2007, about 32 hours of ESPN Coverage will be presented to television viewers in HD.

Television coverage of ESPN will show the main Texas Hold'em tournament as well as the other events for the game of poker in the WSOP. The hole card camera that will be placed in the table will show what cards the player is currently holding.

The HD upgrade makes the World Series of Poker coverage the first to be made in high definition. ESPN also plans to upgrade their "Mike and Mike" and "Cold Pizza" to HD format. ESPN said that they would have the same amount of HD Hours as last year.

Nonetheless, the modification improved to about 9,000, making it possible for the network to have another record setting year with HD. ESPN has covered the WSOP since 1993.

The event really grew in 2003 when the network implemented the hold card camera, making it possible for the audience to be part of the action. Chris Moneymaker won the top honors for that event.
