U.K. Teams Triumps at the Poker Nations Cup

On April 17th, 2008, the strains of the national anthem of England could be heard playing at the PartyPoker.com Poker Nations Cup as Team England won the championship in a tag team formatted event.

The Poker Nations Cup is a one-of-a kind poker event conceptualized by Channel 4 and PartyPoker, where competing teams are consist of five poker players and one online poker qualifier and will compete in six heats (except the American team who have celebrity poker player Montel Williams), each of the player will compete in the event only once getting points for their individual performance.

The decision of each captain is important to the overall outcome of the game because it will be up to the captain to make the player substitution and time-outs. The winning British team is composed of Captain Roland De Wolfe, Neil Channing, joe beevers, Surinder Sunar, Ian Frazer and PartyPoker qualifier Charlie Dubin. Channing was able to defeat Donnacha O'Dea from Ireland in the final heads-up showdown, giving Britain the trophy.

A spokesperson from PartyPoker commented that Neil Channing has a good winning streak and he was able to carry it over in the event. The television coverage for the event will be shown in Channel 4 and poker players like Vicky Coren will host the event. Each of the participants in the event paid a buy-in cost of $5,000 dollars, with $100,000 dollars given by PartyPoker, which bought the total cash pool to $280,000 dollars.
