J.C. Trans Problem at the World Poker Finals

On November 8th, 2007, at the end of the first day of the World Poker Finals, almost everyone at the Foxwoods Resort Casino was buzzing about what happened. During the flop of nine-nine-five, J.C. Tran and his opponent, who does not want his name to be mentioned, went all in with a second player possessing the smaller stack.

Tran place a J-nine for trips and P2 insta-mucks, but the dealer gets the cards from the muck and puts them in a face-up position, showing A7o. The board finished with an eight/six combination to give the second player the runner/runner straight and Tran goes ballistic, saying that his opponent mucked the card hand and that the pot should be awarded to him.

The floor was called to take action of the case but the final decision was made in favor of the second player, who rakes the cash pot while J.C. Tran's demands to view the video tape of the game were to no avail.

Tran lost the cash pot but had his opponents still covered and still in the race with $25,000 in total chips. Some of the well-known names were already out of action on the 1st day of the tournament at Foxwoods like Eric Froelich, Jon Friedberg, Jonathan Little, David Pham, Joe Sebok, Vanessa Selbst, barry greenstein and Mimi Tran.

Michael Farris is the current chip leader with $157,000. Brent Roberts is in 2nd place with $148,000 and Bill Edler is in 3rd place with $109,000.
