Tahoe Poker Overview

Tahoe Poker is a hold’em poker game, which is a variant on the better-known poker game Omaha High. Suitable for 2-8 players, Tahoe Poker is also considered a variant of Super Eight Poker, because it gives players eight cards to select their hand from.

Tahoe Poker Rules

In order to begin a game of Tahoe Poker, one player is selected to be the ‘dealer’ or the ‘button.’ With each round of Tahoe, the dealer button moves over one space to the left. The player to the left of the dealer button is called the small blind, and places a wager before any cards are dealt. The player to the small blind’s left is called the big blind, and places a wager usually equal to double the small blind’s bet.

After the blinds are placed, the first three cards are dealt. These are called the hole cards, and each player sees only his or her own cards. The player to the left of the big blind begins the betting round. Each player can, in turn, choose to call the current bet, raise the bet higher, or fold, forfeiting any chance at the pot. When all betting is completed, the first set of three community cards, known as the flop, is dealt.

After the flop, there is another round of betting, this time beginning with the small blind. When the betting is completed, then the turn, also known as Fourth Street, is dealt. This is the fourth community card to be placed on the table. Another round of betting follows the turn. When the round is completed, the fifth community card, known as the river or Fifth Street is dealt. At this point, there is a final round of betting, followed by the showdown. Players must use exactly two of their hole cards and three of the community cards to make their hand. The player with the best poker hand wins the pot. The only difference between Tahoe and Super Eight Poker is that in Tahoe, players must use exactly two hole cards and three community cards. One variation on Tahoe allows players to use none, one, or two hole cards rather than exactly two.
