In Snowmen and Hockey Sticks, each player places an ante in order to play the game. This is an amount of money that each player adds to the pot before play begins. It ensures that there will be a winner in each round. If played in a casino, Snowmen and Hockey Sticks may be played with blinds instead of an ante. If it is played with blinds, then two players put in some money before the deal and they bet after the other players. After each player has placed their ante, the dealer gives each player five cards, face down. Players look at their own cards only.
