Snowmen and Hockey Sticks Poker

Snowmen and Hockey Sticks Poker Overview

Snowmen and Hockey Sticks Poker is a draw poker game suitable for 3-8 players. It is played exactly like five-card draw, except that sevens and eights are wild.

Snowmen and Hockey Sticks Poker Rules

In Snowmen and Hockey Sticks, each player places an ante in order to play the game. This is an amount of money that each player adds to the pot before play begins. It ensures that there will be a winner in each round. If played in a casino, Snowmen and Hockey Sticks may be played with blinds instead of an ante. If it is played with blinds, then two players put in some money before the deal and they bet after the other players. After each player has placed their ante, the dealer gives each player five cards, face down. Players look at their own cards only.

Once the cards have been dealt, the first round of betting begins. The player to the left of the dealer begins the betting. For a player to stay in the game, they must match the highest wager placed. If the player chooses to drop out, they may fold. Otherwise they have the choice of staying in by calling the current bet or they may raise the stakes.

Once the round of betting is complete, each player chooses how many of his or her cards to give back to the dealer. Generally one may give back a maximum of three cards. However, if the fifth card is an ace or a wild card, players can give back four cards.

After they give back the cards, the dealer deals them the same number of new cards. There is another round of betting, and then the showdown. In the showdown, players show their cards, and the player with the best hand wins the pot. In Snowmen and Hockey Sticks, it is important to remember that sevens and eights are wild.
