Poker PositionOne of the most important aspects of Poker playing is the player's betting position in the round sequence, for indeed the Poker position can affect the way a player manages his hand. In some Poker variations like Texas Hold'em a player already knows his playing position in advance - the first player to bet is on the dealer's left hand side, the dealer being the last. Nevertheless, in Stud Poker games, the round betting sequence is always a question mark on a Poker player's head. One thing is true: in every game of Poker, it is best to play last. The reason why the best Poker position is the late one (or the ones closer to it) is because a player has more elements to help him decide what to do after he has seen what his opponents have done. When you play in the last Poker position, you have a way of knowing what the odds of someone calling your play are, and so you can keep a bet or simply fold. It follows, of course, that the worst Poker position is the early position (or the ones closer to it), since you are shooting in the dark, not knowing what the other players are up to. There are very few advantages in being in the early Poker position. But if you read further, you will find that there are indeed some. Pauline Davis |
