PokerStars Breaks Own Record for Most Number of Players on an Online Poker Room

Online poker giant PokerStars is certainly living up to its reputation as the biggest online poker site in the world. PokerStars drew 307,106 players on 42,814 poker tables on September 6th, 2009, which was more than enough for a new world record.

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, it was the most gamers ever recorded on an online poker room, surpassing PokerStars' own record by more than one hundred thousand players.

At this rate, the online poker site is online competing with itself for web traffic records and PokerStars still possess the world record for the biggest poker tournament ever held at 65,000 poker players on July 19th, 2009.

As the biggest poker site, PokerStars has more than twenty-seven million members all over the world and has dealt more than thirty-three billion card hands since it launched in 2001. The online poker site has since expanded to feature a number of live poker tournaments including the European Poker Tour (EPT), Asian Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) and the Latin American Poker Tour.

The PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) main event is also the most lucrative online poker event in the world. Poker pro Yevgeniy "Jovial Giant" Timoshenko take home a total of $1.7 million for winning the event on September 21st, 2009.
