Mark Vos - The "Pokerbok"

Back

Mark Vos is one of the new breed of poker players who spent hours playing online poker. If it wasn’t for the boom of online poker, it's highly doubtful that someone like Vos would have a World Series of Poker bracelet by the age of 22.

Born in Cape Town, South Africa, Vos moved to Australia to further his actuarial studies. In June 2004, he put them on hold to concentrate on playing online poker.

With a natural feel for the game, Mark Vos quickly developed a reputation for being one of the world’s best online poker players. But that wasn’t enough for Vos who wanted to go up against the best in real poker. In January 2006, Vos finished a credible 8th at the Crown Australian Poker Championships. For someone who was somewhat of a novice in the casino poker world this was a fantastic achievement.

The best was yet to come, in July 2006 Vos claimed the $2000 No Limit Hold’Em event at the World Series of Poker to become one of the youngest ever bracelet winners. He outlasted a classy field of 1919 entrants to defeat Nam Le.

The win gave Vos $803,274 and established him as one of the best young players on the circuit.

He now has winnings of around $1 million, a superb effort for someone who hasn’t been playing that long.

Now that he has established a name for himself he hopes to pick and choose his tournaments. But for the most part Mark Vos will be found at Full Tilt Poker where he has an affiliation.
