The LA Poker Classic Champion is Eric Hershler

On March 2, 2007, Eric Hershler, a lawyer from Los Angeles, was the winner of the WPTLA Poker Classic held at Commerce Casino in Los Angeles even though it was his first time playing in a major poker tournament.

Eric Hershler, a South African native, did not believe that he could win at the start of the poker tournament, yet he was able to defeat 791 other players to take home the first prize of $2,429,970. It was a memorable poker tournament for Hershler as he reached the final table in 5th place and had poker pro JC Tran at the lead table.

When there were only 3 people at the final table of the poker game, namely Tran, Hershler and Jacobo Fernandez from Florida, Tran looked to be in total control, possessing more than half of the chips that were currently in play. But Hershler fought back after folding up 2 times to Tran and then relegating Fernandez to the 3rd spot with his pocket aces.
