Irish Hold’em Poker

Irish Hold’em Overview

Irish Hold’em is a variant of Omaha High. Like Omaha High, it is suitable for 2-8 players, and each player receives four hole cards. There are, like Omaha High, five community cards. The only difference between Omaha High is that players must discard two of their hole cards after the flop.

Irish Hold’em Rules

Like in all Hold’em games, Irish Hold’em begins with the player to the left of the dealer placing the small blind, and the player to the small blind’s left placing the big blind, which is twice the amount of the small blind.

After the blinds are placed, the dealer gives each player four hole cards. The player to the left of the big blind begins the betting. Each player can choose to call the current bet, raise the bet higher, or fold and forfeit any chance at the pot. When all betting is completed, the first three community cards, known as the flop, are dealt.

After the flop is dealt, in Irish Hold’em, players are required to discard two of their hole cards. After the two cards are discarded, there is another round of betting, this time beginning with the small blind. When the betting is completed, then the turn or Fourth Street is dealt. This is the fourth community card. Another round of betting follows the turn. When the round is completed, the river, or Fifth Street is dealt. At this point, there is a final round of betting, followed by the showdown. Players must use their two remaining hole cards and three of the community cards to make their hand. The player with the best poker hand wins the pot.

As you can see, Irish Hold’em is a sort of combination of Omaha High and Texas Hold’em.
