Homicide Stud Poker

Homicide Stud Overview

Homicide is a variant of Seven Card Stud in which there is only one hole card, instead of three, and there is a chance of a player having two wild cards. It is played by 3-7 players.

Homicide Stud Rules

To begin, players ante up, adding a small sum of money to the pot in order to get the game started. Then each player receives one card facedown and another face-up. The first round of betting begins with the player to the dealer’s left, and moves clockwise around the table. Players can choose one of three possibilities. They can choose to stay in with the minimum wager. Referred to as calling, this means putting the sum into the pot that the last player put in before them. The player may opt to raise, which means putting in a larger sum of money, forcing the rest of the players to put in the new sum. The final option is called folding. If a player folds, they put no money into the pot and stop playing.

When the first round of betting is completed, the game proceeds. Each of the next five cards is dealt face-up, each followed by a round of betting as described above. When each player has received seven cards, six face-up and one face-down, and there has been a final round of betting, there is a showdown. This means that players show their seventh card. If that card matches any of the other cards in rank, then both cards become wild and can be used as any card. Bearing this in mind, players form the best possible hand consisting of five of their seven cards. The player holding the best hand wins the pot.
