Good Bad Ugly Poker

Good, Bad, Ugly Overview

Good, Bad, Ugly poker is a version of Seven Card Stud which has special rules. One rank of cards becomes wild, another has to be given back to the dealer, and a third forces players to fold. The game is suitable for 3-7 players.

Good, Bad, Ugly Poker Rules

To begin the game, each player gives a small sum of money, known as the ante, to the pot. Then the dealer deals each player two cards facedown. Then the dealer deals three cards facedown to the middle of the table. He then gives each player a third card, this one face-up.

There is a round of betting. Beginning with the player to the dealer’s left and moving clockwise around the table, players can choose their move. They may choose to call, matching the current bet. They may also choose to raise the current bet, which means adding more money to the pot than the current bet. When a player raises, then all other players who wish to stay in must match the new, higher amount. If the player does not wish to add more money to the pot, he may fold. When a player folds, they stop playing.

When the first betting round is complete, each player receives a second card face-up. This is followed by a betting round.

Then the dealer flips the first of the three cards in the middle of the table. This card is referred to as the good. All cards of the same rank are wild in the player’s hand.

It should be noted that this is not a community card. None of the three cards in the center of the table function as a community card.

Each player receives a third face-up card. This is followed by a round of betting.

When the betting round is complete, the dealer flips up the second card, the bad. Any cards matching the rank of this card must be surrendered to the dealer, regardless of whether they are face-up or facedown.

Each player receives the fourth upcard. There is another round of betting.

The third card is turned over. This is the ugly. Any player who holds an upcard of the same rank must fold.

Each player receives one more card, facedown. This is followed by a round of betting. When the betting round is completed, there is a showdown. All players show their cards. The player who can form the best five card poker hand using their cards wins the pot.
